The Encyclopedia Of Things That Never Were: Ocryx Excerpt 2

INTRODUCTION: ADULT CONTENT WARNING. Another example of a fictional encyclopedia entry about Ocryx from Manitou Island, scribbled on the same piece of paper as the other such entry. Reference is here made to Gray-Mouse-In-Hiding ("a chief's daughter") from "Random Manitou Island Scene." The other references were to old stories I had written about Ocryx which are now out of date; the tribe which he turned into manitous was the medicine man Stick-In-The-Dirt's tribe, which in the newest version of events was simply killed off by him on accident when he rampaged across the Island--he obtained his horde of evil manitous by changing the alignments of some already existing manitous on the Island. In my updated storyline, Gray-Mouse-In-Hiding does not exist, and was not raped even if she did exist, as Ocryx does not resort to such measures and instead uses a sort of hypnotic seduction. He also does not bargain for souls or gold, but merely for gems and precious stones. He ALSO does not have a rat's body, just a furry body. The details regarding him fighting Ocryana (who, oddly enough, is not named as the Ocryx that he fought), falling in love with Stick-In-The-Dirt's daughter, ruling over the lake manitous, and being cursed by Ocryana with his demon form still stand.

Same date as the other encyclopedia entry (1989-95).

The Encyclopedia of Things That Never Were

Ocryx

The supreme ruler of demons and monsters on Manitou Island, Mackinac Island's dark side. He is well known and feared by the Indians that live there. He has had many exploits, among them fighting and losing to a little boy and a squirrel, turning a whole tribe into evil manitous, raping a chief's daughter, and fighting a female Ocryx. Not entirely evil, he fell in love with a shaman's daughter but was unable to marry her. Sometimes Indians will make bargains with Ocryx in exchange for jewels, gold and money or souls, to add to Ocryx's already vast treasure. Ocryx used to be a handsome Indian spirit, but was changed into a wolf-headed, snake-tailed, rat-bodied, eagle-winged demon from Ocryana's jealousy.
