The Rabbit/Ode To Maggie (Original Draft)

INTRODUCTION: A poem I dug out of the basement. Again I'm unclear on the placement of the apostrophe in "don't" as I wrote it oddly. Maggie was the class rabbit when I had Miss Coon and Mrs. Caldwell as my teachers, I believe (the "boy bunny" was Fred, the class rabbit from the year before)--so that would date this poem from sixth grade (1988-89). See "Ode To Maggie" for the polished version.

The Rabbit
[Note--original title is crossed out and replaced by:]
Ode to Maggie

There's a rabbit sitting on my desk.
I think to pet it would be best.
Or else the rabbit might bite,
And I really don't want to start a fight.

The rabbit's eyes are bright, bright red
And in some shavings she makes her bed.
The rabbit's nose goes 'twitch, twitch,'
As if it needs scratching but she'd rather it itch. [Note--the word "let" is crossed out before "it."]

This rabbit will eat anything from carrots to bunny food,
She does'nt [sic] even care if it's bad or good.
All she cares about is to be let out soon
And to meet that boy bunny from the other room.
