INTRODUCTION: The full existing text of my unfinished novel, On Angels' Wings. All righty, this one's a little hard to explain. Basically, it was about a boy named Danny, who just happened to be the descendant of...Dante Alighieri! That's right, the guy who wrote The Divine Comedy! Get it, "Danny," "Dante"? Anyway. For some reason that I can't recall, Dante in this story is an angel, and he's working on getting his pair of wings, so he has to help out Danny. And helping out DANTE is...Virgil! That's right, the guy Dante WROTE The Divine Comedy about! And he's DANTE'S guardian angel! Was this idea cool or what? What? That's right. I'm still not sure what I was thinking. Anyway. This is in the same five-subject (or, on closer inspection, is it in fact just a three-subject...?) notebook that D Is For Damien and The Great Shriner Caper are in. The cover illustration is again simply the title, but I jazzed it up by making the "A" in "Angel" a block letter with a halo falling over it, and the "W" in "Wings" has...a pair of wings. Wow, creative. Judging by eraser marks I originally just wrote "Angels'" in cursive. I get the feeling this story was meant to have a sequel, but I can't for the life of me recall what it could have been about, and that's probably, as Martha Stewart would put it, a good thing.
Disclaimer: Back then I don't think I was aware that The Divine Comedy and Dante's Inferno weren't the same thing. (Another note--after typing the story up, it looks like I might have gotten my plot a bit confused--or else I just never got around to the plot I mentioned above. Oh well, it WAS almost two decades ago.) 1990.
