Ode To Maggie

INTRODUCTION: Updated version of "The Rabbit/Ode To Maggie." This poem is printed nicer, cleaned up, mounted on colored construction paper, and illustrated; perhaps it was intended for Miss Coon, one of my sixth-grade teachers and Maggie's owner. Almost certainly from the same date as the other poem (1988-89).

Ode to Maggie

There's a rabbit sitting on my desk.
I think to pet it would be best.
Or else the rabbit might bite,
And I really do'nt [sic] want to start a fight.

The rabbit's eyes are bright, bright red,
And in some shavings she makes her bed.
The rabbit's nose goes 'twitch, twitch,'
As if it needs scratching but she'd rather it itch.

This rabbit eats anything from carrots to bunny food.
She does'nt [sic] even care if it's bad or good.
All she cares about is to be let out soon,
And to meet the boy bunny from the other room.

--Rachel H. [last name omitted]
