The Return Of Luther Excerpt

INTRODUCTION: Another excerpt from the five-subject notebook that the Night Of The Goat excerpts and other items were contained in, this one of The Return Of Luther. This scene gives the explanation behind modern-day Luther's fear of water. Likely 1991.

Excerpt from
Sidekicks 2: The Return Of Luther

"It started out very faint, so we could hardly hear it. Then Lilu shouted, 'A train! A train is coming!'

"'Don't be silly,' I said. 'Trains don't come down this bridge anymore.'

"'But I hear it. Don't you? That low whistle and a rumbling sound. Can't you feel it? A train is coming!'

"I was beginning to believe her. What else could it possibly be? But it was true, the bridge had been abandoned. Then I saw it, smoke puffs rising into the air at regular intervals. Train smoke! Lilu and Luther noticed it too.

"'Come on!' Lilu shouted. She made a run for the far end of the bridge and in several minutes was well clear. By now the train had come closer. I began to run, but stopped. Luther hadn't moved. He stood right where he was, staring at the oncoming train.

"'Come on, Luther!' I said, and ran. I met Lilu on the bank. But Luther was still looking at the train, which was quickly bearing down on him. Then he tried to run, but there was nowhere to go but down. Just then he slipped and fell, and we could see him, hanging onto the rails for dear life..."
