The Warning
"You're his sister?" Damien asked, bewildered.
D. J. nodded, looking out the tinted window at the passing landscape. Her earlier joviality was gone.
"But I never knew he had a sister! You don't even look like him--except for your eyes!"
"What is all this talk about eyes?" D. J. said, turning to look at him. "I haven't the faintest what you're talking about!" [Note--I recall when writing this that no, the word "idea" is not missing, I intended to write it that way.]
"It's Luther's eyes. They harbor pure evil," Madame Solatska replied from her shadowy corner in the van. "But vith your eyes, something tells me different. I can't place my finger on vhat it is."
The van pulled in at the "coven", where Damien and some of his friends lived (to escape from fans, as Damien had said), in a remote area of the woods. [Note--misplaced comma.] Everyone got out and went in, except for Kat, who was determined to find a lost earring. [Note--really, really trite excuse to get her alone, I know.] Damien looked at her for a moment, then shook his head and closed the door.
Kat reached the edge of the clearing and scanned the ground. Suddenly someone gripped her around the throat as if to strangle her. It had to be Luther! Knowing his record and fearing for the worst, she struggled against him, but he was too powerful. Pulling her head over near his, he said, "If Leslie isn't with you, you're in deep trouble. And if she is, you're in even deeper trouble! Remember, Katrina, it's Devil's Night. And they don't call it that for nothing!" With that he let her go and shoved her. She staggered, trying to run away from him. To her amazement, he didn't even try to follow. He disappeared into the enveloping shadows, but as he did, she could hear a final message said:
"Scorpio will win in the end! Beware of the Scorpion!"
