Revolution Back

[Back inside blurb:]

CHAOS

THUTMOSE CLIMBED up onto the deck, leaned on a bar, and looked around. [Note--the "deck" was an elementary school playground contraption that I seem to recall showing up in some of my other writings.] Then he snapped his head back to look at the open field about a half mile away. Black shapes were marching over the hills.

Soldiers! Syrian soldiers! Thutmose grabbed the fireman's pole, changed his mind, then ran to the slide. He climbed up on the block at the beginning of the drop.

"War! War!" he shouted. "Soldiers--coming from the north!"

Those within earshot looked. Then they passed the word with screams and shouts. Everyone ran into the new school--except one. Akhenaton!

"Inside!" Thutmose yelled.

"He can't!" Straitjacket shouted from the lower hall doorway. "His foot's caught in the fence!"

Thutmose would have to act quickly to get Akhenaton. But how? The fence was what the soldiers were headed towards.

Akhenaton looked back at Thutmose. Thutmose, knowing what he'd have to do but hating every bit of it, jumped off the deck...

"I've seen the soldiers with my own eyes. They are panthers in the night; you can't see or hear them or know of their presence until they are apon [sic] you."

[Note--in addition there are some scribbled notes on the first page of Chapter 3. One reads, "Lake of Death," and was most likely my original name choice for the lake in question. The other was what one of my relatives, likely Dad, suggested when I gave a bit of backstory on this lake and asked for name suggestions. The suggestion, which I noted only because of its utter stupidity, is "Lake of the Dead Chariot in the Fog." Gotta love family.]
