Set's Disappearance
Everything had happened adbruptly [sic]. Horus, lost, went off in search of Anubis, his brother. A temple was built to honor Osiris, with a big statue of a cow--Apis, or the incarnation of Osiris. [Note--as I said, I think Apis was more closely associated with Ptah rather than with Osiris. But my Egyptian's a little rusty.]
One day, Set was still jealous, especially because Osiris had caught two of his best amemits. He decided to try to get Osiris again but he had to cross the Nile. The crocodiles, seeing him, charged and began to snap at him. HAL, frightened and not knowing what to do, ran around in circles and ran off.
"Wait! HAL! Wait!" Set cried, trying to shake the crocodiles off of him. But HAL was too far away to hear him. Set's blood dropped on a stone, turning it red [and mak]ing it have evil powers and m[agic]. [Note--I believe this stone shows up again in Osiris 2, which was never completed.]
But Set wasn't gone. None of the gods could be gone for good. They were all magic.
Everyone was forgiven the next day. Even though the crocodiles had been on Set's side, no one was surprised when HAL came to them, no one holding onto the other end of his leash.
