Lucifer (Original Draft) Prologue

Prologue

The two dogs and ten puppies huddled under an outcrop of rock in the dead-grass field, their used-to-be captors searching about for them. The seventh puppy was confused, but he knew more about what was going on than the others.

A while back his mother had told him that he and all of the others belonged to a group of devil worshipers who used his family for ceremonies. They had been named accordingly. He was Lucifer, and several of the others were Lilith, Natas, Beelzebub, etc. His father's name was Lucifer as well, and his grandfather's, and so on back to his great great great grandfather. He was the sixth and 'final' one--but he didn't know what.

His grandfathers had been put under some kind of spell, but his father had escaped and was there, too. They were after him. And the little one.

A shot brought the to their feet and they went running. The puppies were carried along. On their way, the father was hit by a drugged bullet. [Note--"drugged bullet"? *LMFAO*] The little one ran to him. Barely saying a word, he hung a large jewel-studded crucifix around his neck, and nudged the puppy away. Soon he, too, would be under the spell.

The dogs again stopped, next to a high cliff. Hearing a bark they turned to see another dog, this one with a gold D around his neck, run up to them.

"Damien, am I glad you're here," the mother panted. "They got Lucifer just a way back. You have to help me with the puppies."

Bang! A bullet just missed the puppy's uncle. The two dogs were on their feet once more, running for their lives. The mother had two puppies in her mouth and two on her back, and the one who she had called Damien had one in his mouth and five on his back. Looking ahead, they could see that a fire was encircling them.

Bang! Bang! The mother dropped. Swerving around, the uncle caught up the remaining puppies and ran for it. Bang! He skidded down on his left foreleg, but stumbled back up. Closing his eyes, he jumped through the roaring wall of fire and landed safely on the other side. Then, nudging the puppies to flee, he dropped down and closed his eyes.

That was the last they saw of him.
