A Bit of an Argument
"Cr-criminal--record?" Kat stuttered, her eyes beginning to burn red. [Note--in the original stories, Katrina was supposed to be a witch--hence her name, Katrina Witchita. (No, it's not a Kansas reference.) Hence the glowing red eyes. In later stories, this aspect slowly faded away; I don't even refer to her as "Wiccan" or anything by now.]
"Oh boy, oh boy, is Dami in trouble now," Damon hummed.
"Take it easy, Kat, that's all behind him now," Choby said. "He hasn't done anything."
"So what!" Katrina exploded. "For all I know he's probably stealing everything! Wait'll I get my hands on--"
"I think you will sooner than you thought," Lilith said. "Here he comes now."
After Damien got out of the car, Kat stormed over to him.
"So! What's this about a CRIMINAL RECORD!" she shouted.
"What?" Damien asked, startled.
"Don't you play innocent with me! What's this about assault and battery? And armed robbery!"
"What are you talking about?" Damien yelped.
"I'm not gonna take this anymore. I'm leaving!" Kat spun around and marched off.
"What's eatin' he--" Damien started, and then his look of surprise turned to one of anger. He slowly turned to look at Chernobyl.
"Heh heh," Choby laughed weakly. "Little problem."
"I'll say," Damien growled, his eyes narrowing. "Since when do you think you have the right to go snooping around in other people's business?"
"Listen Dami, it's just--"
"That's Damien to you, Mr. Private Eye. I can't believe this. I can't! You can just take our friendship and shove it up your nose!" He got back in the car and sped off.
"But, Damien!" Chernobyl shouted. "Damien!"
"What's all this shouting?" Lucifer asked, running out.
"Ever hear of Dami's so-called criminal record?" Lilith said.
"Oh," Lucifer said, then looked a little puzzled. "Wha?"
"Never mind."
"Dami--I mean, Damien's right," Choby sighed, sitting down. "I wish I woulda kept my mouth shut."
Harvey ran past them and into the coven.
"Luce, Luce!" he shouted.
"What is it?" Lucifer asked.
Harvey panted a bit, then said, "D'you know about a group called Scorpio?"
"Group!" Lucifer laughed. "They aren't a group, son. They're a whole worldwide cult!" He became serious. "Yeah, I know about them. Do you know Shirana?"
"You mean that pretty woman with that evil smile and those skimpy dresses?"
Lucifer laughed again. "Yes, her. She used to be a member."
Harvey gasped. "You live with a member of Scorpio?"
"Yes, and so do you."
"Oh yeah," Harvey said thoughtfully. "Well, thanks."
"These kids get stranger every year," Lucifer smiled.
Several hours later, Chernobyl and Shirana went downtown on an errand. On the way back it began to rain.
"Oh, for goodness' sakes [sic]!" Choby muttered.
"There's a bus coming," Shirana said. "Let's get a ride."
They boarded the crowded bus. "We'll never get a seat!" Choby complained.
"Yoo-hoo! Choby! Shari! Back here!" Choby saw someone wave and motion to them. It was Damien.
"Man, am I glad to get out of that rain," Choby sighed. "Oh, Dami? I'm really sorry about what happened earlier."
"That's okay," Dami replied. [Note--nowadays I'd never refer to Dami by nickname within the narration. Uck.] "I was acting like a boob. By the way--"
A huge bump sent them flying. They slammed back into their seats.
"Wow!" Damien exclaimed. "Now that was cool."
"W-where are w-w-we g-g-g-going?" Shirana stuttered.
"Oh, I d-don't know," Dami said. "S-somewhere."
Back at the coven, Harvey, Esmeralda, the rest of the puppies, and the grownups were inside drinking chocolate milk and talking.
"Harve, you've been quiet lately," Esmeralda pressed. "What's going on?"
"Nothin'."
"Maybe I should pull your teeth out."
"And get him mad? I don't think it's worth it," Father Damien, at the other side of the room, said.
Everyone stopped and slowly turned around. There was Father Damien, leaning against the door case, as if nothing had happened!
There was suddenly a load [sic] uproar. All of them, except Harvey, flew over to Father Damien and hugged him. Little Cynthia and Timothy grabbed onto his legs, and even Sandy's pet Pyrenees, Sarah, licked his face. They were all shouting and being so happy that they didn't notice a black car, parked across the highway, start up and slowly drive off. [Note--I think I just included this car to be suspenseful, and later on completely forgot about it or what it might signify. Oops.]
