D Is For Damien (Original Draft) Chapter 3

Chapter 3
Suspicions

Harvey rushed over to Chernobyl. "Choby!" he panted. "I--I know who has Father Damien!"

Choby looked interested. "What's your guess?"

"It ain't a guess, Choby! It's that Luther guy! The one Damien was with! He was talkin' on the phone and said all this stuff like, 'You got him? Tie him up. His nephew's lookin' for him. Is the poison in the needle?'"

Choby sat up. "Poison in the needle!"

Harvey nodded. "It has to be Father Damien! What do we do, Chobe? They're gonna poison him!"

"Don't get all hyper. First we hafta tell Dami."

After dropping Luther off, Damien stopped at the police station.

"Well, well, if it isn't old Damien," Officer Jones grinned. "Did you get busted again?"

"If I did, would I be coming in here voluntarily?" Damien snapped. "I came to get info on Scorpio."

"Scorpio?"

"I'm positive you've heard of them."

"Why?"

"No real reason."

Officer Jones looked at him suspiciously, but leafed through the files.

"Oh, here's something," he said, pulling out a manila folder. "Some case from a while back." He passed it over.

Damien looked it over. "Anyone you know?"

"Verrry funny."

"No, I mean it. Have you ever met any members?"

"Well, maybe. I can't quite remember."

Damien finished looking at it and gave it back. "If that's it, I'll leave now."

"Maybe I should search you to see if you swiped anything."

"Like what!"

"Oh, I dunno...like maybe a..."

Damien glared at him for a few seconds, then left.

"I don't see what you're so excited about," Amy said, her pink convertible speeding through the traffic. "There's no real proof. He never said Father Damien's name, and we don't have the call on tape."

"He has to know where he is!" Harvey persisted. "I heard it."

"I thought that guy was kinda fishy, though," Amy commented.

"Maybe he works in a tuna company," Damon suggested.

"Damon, shut up!" Choby whined.

Amy braked suddenly. Everyone was thrown forward.

"Hey Ame, what is it?" Choby asked.

"Damien!" Amy shouted. "Over here!"

Damien drove his car up so it was side by side with Amy's. Amy leaned out.

"Dami, Harve says Luther knows where your uncle is."

Damien turned off the engine. "How? He never told me anything."

"Where'd you drop him off?" Choby asked.

"At some big warehouse-like building. D'you want me to take you there?"

Amy started the car. "Yeah, I guess so."

They pulled out and drove off.

It was a while later when they reached the building. No one was in sight, and there were no cars except for an old junker next to a metal-littered area.

"Yii! Look at my hair!" Amy screeched. "I'm goin' in to fix it up. There must be a bathroom in there somewhere." She jumped out and headed for the deserted lot.

"I think I'll go in 'n' look around," Choby said.

Amy wandered about aimlessly. She soon spotted a door labeled 'Restroom' next to a storage room. Going inside, she saw the grungy sinks, floor, and mirrors. She flicked on the light and fixed her hair with the water.

A dull thump behind the wall made her look up. She shook her head and continued.

Thud, thud.

Amy grew perplexed. "What is that?" She stared at the wall for a minute, then turned back.

Thud.

"For goodness' sakes [sic]!" Amy growled. She walked out of the room. The knocks seemed to have come from the storage room.

"Hello?" Amy called. "Anybody in here? Hello."

She entered the storeroom. A closet was off to the left. Huge boxes were piled all over.

"Hello?" She looked around, then, just to be sure, she opened the closet door. Then she gasped.
