in his heart of hearts
he knows he has not long now
before he will fall
at night his sleep is shattered
he wakens from ghastly dreams
these things people do
these things they do to others
do to him in dreams
then he couldn't understand
and yet neither can he now
and when he's asleep
caught not quite in existence
he knows most of all
that soon he'll live a nightmare
